Taipingshan National Forest Recreation Area is located in the northeastern part of Taiwan's Yilan County, and its abundant landscapes are a precious treasure of Taiwan. The mountains are home to valuable forests, and in the past, it was one of the three major forestry areas in Taiwan, along with Alishan and Baguashan. Today, you can still find remnants of cable cars, mountain railways, and logging machinery that were once used for production operations.

The high-altitude difference in Taiping Mountain allows for a complete range of forest types, from subtropical rainforests to temperate needle-leaved forests around Cui Feng Lake. The abundant natural resources nurture diverse ecological landscapes. The mountain is home to six streams and Taiwan's largest alpine lake. The scenery changes with the seasons, offering a feast for the senses. In autumn, you can enjoy a golden spectacle along a 4-kilometer trail.

In the forests of Taiping Mountain, you can enjoy the blessings of nature at various moments. Witness the enchanting beauty of the sea of clouds and sunrise in the early morning. In the evening, admire the vibrant hues of the sunset that dye the clouds crimson. Taiping Mountain, with its high altitude, is also a great spot for stargazing. After feasting your eyes on the stunning landscapes, don't miss the captivating hot springs nestled in the serene valleys of Juozijue.

In order to preserve the natural ecology of the wetland, the museum was built on the northwest side of the Wushi Harbor reef site, with its highest point facing Turtle Island in the east. It gradually slopes down towards the southwest and merges with the ground. The entire building takes the form of a cone, creating a distinctive landmark in Yilan due to its unique architectural design.

Once you enter the Lanyang Plain, you can feel the blending of mountains and sea. Therefore, the Lanyang Museum has organized its permanent exhibition into four levels based on the logic of building floors and altitude. These levels include the 4th floor "Mountain Layer," the 3rd floor "Plain Layer," the 2nd floor "Sea Layer," and the 1st floor "Time Corridor." With Yilan's rainfall as the main theme, the museum showcases the natural assets and cultural heritage of Yilan, extending the imagination of visitors in a vast space.

▲ The Ocean Permanent Exhibition

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the museum regularly hosts various special exhibitions to promote unique cultural and ecological knowledge. For the latest updates on these exhibitions, please visit the official Facebook page. Lanyang Museum is conveniently located near famous attractions such as Wushi Harbor and Toucheng Old Street. Why not plan a deep exploration of Yilan and include a visit to the museum as part of your itinerary?
